My Narrative

Ever since I was a child, I have gone on beach vacations with my family. One of our favorite places to go is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These coastal cities remind me a lot of the ones in South Africa. Hearing the upsetting news about the seas level rising in South Africa made me worry that my favorite place to spend holidays and summer vacations with my family may be effected just like the coastal cities in South Africa.
Once I decided on my topic and problem for the research paper, I then had to create an effective question. Finding a topic and question was harder than I thought it would be, because I had to research several global issues to determine which one was most important to my own life. Then, I had to make sure the issue was refined and that I could answer my own question. I also had to make sure it was specific enough but also a well known topic in order for there to be e enough articles about it. When I finally submitted my question, and saw that it was approved, I was very relieved. Yet, I knew that the hardest part was about to come- researching and writing about my topic.
Researching my topic seemed like it took forever, as I had to overcome many obstacles during this process. The first obstacle I faced was being sick most of the days we had time to research and ask questions during class. This meant I was on my own for the research, and I also struggled to find sources that answered my question appropriately. In order to solve this problem, I reevaluated how I wanted to approach my topic. This seemed to be successful, as I had a much easier time finding sources. Once all my note cards of research were complete, I began writing my research paper. In total, revising my paper took about two weeks. After I turned in my paper, I faced yet another obstacle- my paper got bounced back. My paper was returned to me because my MLA formatting was not correct, so I needed to fix my "Works Cited". I fixed the mistakes and then I resubmitted my paper, and finally, the process was over.
As global warming affects the world everyday the problem in South Africa will only get worse with time. If the citizens and government will change their attitudes towards the problem they may be able to help reduce the the rates of this problem.
